Welcome
Thank you for visiting our web site! This is an extremely unique ministry.
Most mission organizations focus their attention on
the missionary’s prime geographical area of ministry. However, D&D
strives to minister to the missionary and their families
when they are on furlough/ home assignment, in pre-field ministries, on sabbaticals, when they
need physical recuperation, during evacuations from ministry field, during
evacuations from ministry field, or in their first year
of retirement from the mission field where they have served for so many years.
D&D is here to SERVE THE SERVANTS who have sacrificed themselves for the
sake of the spreading of the gospel and the
discipling of those who believe in Jesus, the Messiah, as their Savior. Most
of these ambassadors of Christ have very few
personal possessions -- or even a place to call home in the United States.
Realizing this, missionary Miss Alma Doering and a business woman, Miss Stella
Dunkelberger (thus the origination of the"
D&D"), determined to provide housing for missionaries in a comfortable
climate in St. Petersburg, Florida. The first home
was made available to missionaries in 1949 in the same location D&D occupies
today. The founders would be surprised to see
what God has done because of their initial vision and faith.
D&D has grown to a full-fledged mission organization. It provides homes
to over 260 missionary families or single
missionaries each year. These dear servants of the Lord come from around the
world and represent some 75 missionary-sending, evangelical organizations.
In one week, missionaries on the grounds were from 30 nations! Naturally, most
are U.S.
citizens but some are native to other countries.
Our homes are fully furnished and are in a quiet, contiguous four-block area.
Missionaries live next to missionaries and
provide that support and understanding which is so important to the servants
of God who are in transition from one area (or
perhaps ministry) to another. The caring and committed staff attempts to meet
the needs of the youngest missionary kid up
to the oldest missionary. The clothing center, food pantry, library, laundries,
fitness center, modern playground, and daily prayer times are all
part of the support for our resident missionaries as well as those passing
through the area.
We hope that you will visit each section of our web site to learn more about
D&D. Your interest, demonstrated by your
prayers, is important to us. Please contact us when you are in the area. We
would be pleased to welcome you and give you a
tour of the campus so that you can WATCH GOD WORK with us. This motto was established
in 1949 by D&D’s founder, Miss
Doering, and has been a meaningful phrase to many, many missionaries over the
years.
"Praise God from whom all blessings flow!"
In His service,
Philip R. Fogle
